I am fairly sure I have sleep apena and have been suffering from it for about a year now. My work have been quick to point out my extreme tiredness and poor performance. As I am a IT Programmer I have a tendancy to drop off for a micro nap at my desk. I am sure my work is building up a case against me because of this. What rights do I have? is OSA classed as a disability and should my work cater for it? Can you be fired for having OSA and/or suffering the effects thereof.

Thanks in advance

Hi
My girlfriend has noticed last night that I wasn't breathing breathing for a little while, so after searching on the internet I found that I have sleep apnea and then I found your website. I'm just wondering what should I do now? Should I go to GP doctor? Or maybe I should visit your clinic? Or just buying mask would help?
Can you give me answer to my questions and as much information as I need to start treatment because I'm really concerned about my health.
Thanks a lot.

I have now been on cpap for 4 weeks ... (Nick)

I have now been on cpap for 4 weeks and am being treated by Papworth. apparently mild apnea is the probable cause of my afternoon sleepiness.

CPAP makes me feel better in the mornings ( not that I felt that bad before) but I still feel sleepy in the afternoons but it is not so overwhelming an urge to sleep as before cpap. I am on a pressure of 8 and apparently Papworth measured me to have a mean oxygen saturation of 96%,min of 81% and a desaturation index 4.

Firstly please can someone explain these readings to me and secondly should I ask Papworth if I can increase pressure from 8?

regards

Nick

This is hugely frustrating and i give up on the machine at 2.30am. I have only had one stint of 4 hours continuous sleep.

Is this normal or am i not going to gain any benefit from the CPAP devise?

Help. I've just been diagnosed with OSA and been referred to the Royal Brompton. I've gathered that there is a seven week wait before I will be seen for a CPAP device. We have private medical insurance, but they won't cover the cost of the CPAP device and once we've gone down the private route everything will have to be private. I understand it is possible to hire the machines to start on the route of findinf out which would be best for me. Can anyone advise me as to how and where?

Thanks

I was diagnosed with severe apnea last week and immediately given a computerised machine to try. I have to go back to the clinic on Wednesday, when the machine will be checked and I will be allocated the machine most suitable to me.

What questions should I be asking? What alternatives are there? (I seem to breathe through my mouth more than my nose - should I try a full-face?) I have a full, Billy F Gibbons (he of ZZ Top) beard - should I go for nasal pillow (sic?).

I trust the clinic, but feel out of control because of a lack of knowledge, so any help gratefully received.

My thanks in anticipation.

I am on the CPAP for 2 months now which reduced my obstructions from 60 per hour to 1 per hour. Inspite of that I developped sometimes numbness and sometimes pins and needles in my extremeties (hands and feet). I have had blood tests and saw a neurologist but everything seems to be okay. But the symptoms are not getting any better. Is it possible that the numbness and pins and needles are due to hyperventilation?

I got a head cold which has passed but now I have an unproductive very dry and very irritating cough which gets worse as the day progresses. I feel a tickling and caught up feeling on my chest and this is putting me off my CPAP machine, although I have persisted with it. I am only using it for two weeks so far. I feel very conscious of it during the night and wakeful as I need to fix it into position from time to time.

Could you please tell me if my cpap machine could be causing me to have an allergic reaction in the form of a light pink area on both sides of my lower chest and most days also on my face under my mask? I notice this in the mornings and during the day it will fade to almost normal. Then the same thing happens the next day and so on. I have no insurance so am trying to figure out if it might be my machine and what to do. Please let me know what you think. ty

I have just been given a REM starPlus machine to use.I find the small machine to be very noisy,is this normal.
I can understand that as with all machines you have to become accustomed to its sounds, but this appears to sound like an overworked car engine going up a steep hill!
Your thoughts please
