| 2008-04-15 16:52 Nick | CPAP Machines: I have now been on cpap for 4 weeks and am being treated by Papworth. apparently mild apnea is the probable cause of my afternoon sleepiness. I am on a pressure of 8 and apparently Papworth measured me to have a mean oxygen saturation of 96%,min of 81% and a desaturation index 4. | 2009-08-12 12:39 Julie Maguire | Sleep Apnea: I havent slept very well for a long time, mainly because I have chronic renal failure of which the side effect is going to the toilet in the middle of night. This disturbs my sleep but more than that, my husband says I snore alot too and I am often tossing and turning, fidgeting and getting achy limbs all night. This results in not getting much sleep and I often wake up in the morning with raging headaches that can last for more than 24 hours and am tired all day. Do you think this could be sleep apnea? I am also very overweight. I am 5'4 and 15 stone. Thanks | Answer |
| 2009-09-01 21:41 Ian Matthew | CPAP Machines: Hello, I have a Res Med S8 Escape II,and the hours used time displayed on the machine does not compare to the amount of time which I wear it at night, for instance last night I wore the mask and had the machine switched on for 6 hours, the time used only increased by 1 hour. Can you let me know if this is a common occurrence? Is there something I am doing wrong? or is it to do with the pressure setting not recognising my breathing or am I only getting a very small amount of proper sleep at night? I have discussed this with my medical clinician who just gave me a new machine (I don't think that they understand how it works either!!). Basically all I am after is to know what the hour counter is counting. I look forward to your response. | Answer |

| 2009-11-15 18:36 mark colclough | Sleep Masks: I have been using a nasal mask/cpap machine for 1 month after recently being diagnosed with OSA/waking 18 times per hour. My right nostral (sometimes left also) has been blocked for many years and to complicate things further, i have TMJ (i wear a bite plate from dentist) meaning i clench my jaw all night. Using the nasal only mask means my mouth needs to be closed for the CPAP to work hence i think this is causing increased pressure on my jaw/TMJ. Would i be better using a full face mask because i would be able to keep my mouth open whilst sleeping thus taking pressure off my jaw? I believe my nasal blockage is a result of clenching my jaw all night and wearing a full mask could create a relaxed situation for my jaw and finally give me the rest i need. please help - thanks | Answer |

| 2010-03-06 00:00 Chris | CPAP Machines: My husband has just got a CPAP machine due to severe sleep apnea. He is finding it very frightening and panics when he has the mask on, although it is running at a low pressure (starts at 4). He tried a mask with a nose piece first but whenever he opened his mouth he felt like he was drowing, and also it felt uncomfortable (he has a long face) so felt the full face mask was more comfortable and would stop him opening his mouth as much. How long does it take to get used to it, he seems to be concerned he won't cope with it. Any advice? He has tried it for an hour at the most. | Answer |
| 2010-03-12 01:33 Raymond MANLEY | CPAP Machines: does the cpap machine record how you use it somehow?? the reason I ask is that I work a permanent night shift,12 hr shifts, 4 on and 4 off so I use the machine at night on my days off and during the day when working. This will result in any reading recorded by the machine to look odd to say the least and would appear that I am not using the machine as I should | Answer |

| 2010-05-24 09:15 Joseph R. Blum | Sleep Masks: I curretly use a nasal mask and am constantly sneezing or suffering a runny nose to the point I'm thinking of giving up on the therapy altogether. I've used this therapy for over 4 yrs. All of a sudden I'm not able to tolerate this treatment. I certainly can't function while sneezing and having a runny nose all day. I've tried raising the humidity setting and even going dry pap. Both end with the same result. Would I be better off with a full face mask? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. | Answer |

They increased the gradual air flow timimg to 45 mins. It seems that the moment of dropping off wakes me up with a start. That was a week ago and I am feeling ill every day now and I can only get 2x2hour sleeps during the night. I work full-time and I feel like a wreck. I am on my own for 2 weeks as my husband and children have gone on holiday. Can you help me? please. Alison. | Answer |

| 2010-07-11 12:01 safisafi | Related Health Issues: The day following using my CPAP machine I seem to have trouble breathing. I go through the motion of breathing in the normal way but my body doesn't seem to be absorbing the oxygen (obviously it does or I wouldn't still be here but that is what it feels like) and I get giddy. Is this a form of hysteria, is my body objecting to having air pumped into it, is the pressure on my machine too high? I also get feelings of gentle bubbles in my chest - not my lungs. It is rather unpleasant. | Answer |

The consultant said the CPAP had prevented the apnea but her oxygen was still only at 83, so last night put onto a Nippy 3 non invasive ventilator and is already near the maxium setting. She doesnt like it at all and feels terrible in the mornin. Is it possible to have a CPAP delivering oxygen and if so has anyone else on this? thank yo so much as I and mum are new to all this and we appreciate your help. | Answer |
